黃瓜產品發現新市場
據馬來西亞消息：以海黃瓜為原料製作的香油和健康補品不久將進入韓國市。阿里公司是馬來西亞最有建樹的海黃瓜產品的生產商和經銷商之一，據董事長說，他們在成功地開拓沙烏地阿拉伯市場後，對進入韓國市場充滿了信心。他收到了許多來自韓國公司的信，說是韓國有許多人知道海黃瓜的事，熱切詢問有關海黃瓜產品和他們公司的情況。這家公司用海黃瓜生產肥皂、油、乳脂和健康補品。

Sea cucumber-based products to find new markets
Malaysia：Locally processed balms and health tonics made from sea cucumber may soon find their way into South Korea. Gamat Ali Enterprise, one of the more established producers and distributors of sea cucumber-based products in Langkawi island, Malaysia, was confident of breaking into the South Korean market after its success in Saudi Arabia, its owner Shaari Ismail said. He has received many enquiries from South Korean companies keen to market the company’s products made from sea cucumbers or gamat, as they are popularity known here. The company produces soap, oil, cream and health tonics from sea cucumbers. |Shaari said products like creams, balms, pills and tonics produced by his company underwent various stages of research and development before they were marketed. Its best sellers are creams, ointments and soap. The formula for the health tonic consists of sea cucumber, milk, spices, almonds, raisins, dates and honey. Consumers in Singapore, Brunei and Saudi Arabia have been the company’s loyal customers and Shaari is confident that the company can penetrate more overseas markets.
WTO對秘魯沙丁魚事件做出仲裁
最近，WTO做出仲裁，宣佈在秘魯水域中的沙丁魚和在歐洲水域的沙丁魚實際上是同一種類，隨後秘魯沙丁魚出口歐盟也得到了恢復。歐盟原先禁止秘魯沙丁魚出口歐盟國家是因為 秘魯水域中的沙丁魚和在歐洲水域的沙丁魚外觀不同，消費者們不能認可秘魯的沙丁魚。
Sardines ruled to be same species
Peruvian sardine exports to the EU are set to resume following the latter’s acceptance of a World Trade Organisation ruling that southern Pacific sardines and the variety found in European waters are actually the same species. Originally, the EU had blocked entry of Peruvian sardines on the basis that consumers would not recognise the southern Pacific type as sardine because of the different appearance from the local variety.
越南2003年有機水產養殖大會
越南水產品出口商和生產者協會(VASEP)將與聯合國糧農組織攜手於2003年6月在胡志明市舉辦兩項重要活動：2003有機淡水和海水養殖技術與貿易會將於6月15-17日舉辦。

Vietnam organic aquaculture/sea farming 2003
INFOFISH, the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) and FAO are jointly organising two important events to be held in Ho Chi Minh City in June next year. The Organic Aquaculture and Sea Farming 2003 Technical and Trade Conference will take place from June 15-17, featuring an in-depth analysis of the problems and potential of organic aquaculture, under several main sections: Industry Situation & Outlook; Production & Processing (Case Studies); Markets & Marketing; and Technological Developments & Issues. At the same time (June 14-17), an INFOFISH/VIETFISH Aquaculture Expo pavilion will be set up in conjunction with the VIETFISH 2003 International Fisheries Exhibition. The latter is an annual trade show organised by VASEP featuring seafood processors, importers, exporters and equipment suppliers from around the world. 日本預計柔魚產量下降

Japan decrease of flying squid estimated
The Fisheries Research Agency in Hakkaido has announced the forecast for flying squid (Omastrephes bortrami) - "aka-ika" in Japanese - for the north west Pacific this year. According to the Agency, the numbers migrating to the area this autumn will drop and sizes will be smaller than last year. The flying squid stock has been decreasing year by year and the quantity caught last September to December remained at 4 457 MT, which was 40% of the volume in 2000. Research was conducted west of 155 degrees east in two spells from the middle of June through early July and from late August through early September. Both results showed a decrease from last year. The declining size of individuals also contributed to the gloomy stock forecast. The ratio of over 26 cm mantle length squid dropped, with an increase in smaller bodies. The Agency also predicted that fishing effort would be concentrated off the Sanriku coast between 144-147 degrees east and 40-42 degrees north throughout the season.
緬甸2002年水產品出口猛增
在2002年上半年，緬甸魚和蝦出口達近70000噸，比去年同期增長了120%。魚和蝦分別增長了87%和12%。主要的市場是新加坡和中國。
Myanmar Sharp rise in Exports
During the first half of 2002, nearly 70 000 MT of fish and shrimp were exported from Myanmar, up by 120% from the corresponding period last year. Fish and shrimp accounted for 87% and 12% respectively. Main markets were Singapore and China.
鯊魚、海馬、海龜被列入瀕危種類
國際瀕危野生動植物貿易公約（簡稱CITES）第十二屆會議於2002年11月15日於智利的聖地牙哥舉行。會上投票表決了把包括姥鯊、鯨鯊、32海馬和26種亞洲龜列入國際瀕危野生動植物貿易公約附錄II。這意味著這些種類的國際貿易將受到嚴密監視，以便確定貿易對這些種群產生的影響。這2種鯊魚在會上最早被提出來，在會議期間經過了熱烈的爭論，直到會議結束之前2秒鐘才以2票之差獲得通過。
根據國際瀕危野生動植物貿易公約公報，此項決議(指把鯊魚列入公約)被普遍認為是個里程碑協定，因為過去國際瀕危野生動植物貿易公約在全球漁業發展並未能發揮其重要作用。龜類，包括亞洲的淡水龜和東南亞的貿易量很大，32種海馬的被列入是美國的提案獲得通過的結果，根據國際瀕危野生動植物貿易公約，海馬在國際市場的需求量不斷上升，年增長率達約8-10%，主要用於傳統用藥、觀賞魚、紀念品和古玩，90年代至少有2000萬海馬被捕獲。
Sharks, seahorses ,turtles are endangered species
CITES, Santiago, Chile: The 12th meeting of The Conference of the Parties (COP 12) to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) that was concluded last Friday (15/11/02) in Santiago, Chile, voted in favour to include basking and whale sharks, all 32 seahorses species and 26 Asian turtles species into CITES Appendix II. This means that international trade of these species are to be monitored closely so that the effect of the trade on their population can be determined. The two sharks became the first-ever sharks to be listed by CITES after much heated debates during the meeting and only in the last minute of the final day, they won two second round vote. According the CITES press release the decision (to include the sharks) is widely considered a landmark agreement as CITES has not traditionally played an important role in global fisheries. The turtles include Asian freshwater turtles and tortoises which are traded in significant quantities in Southeast and East Asia. All 32 species of seahorses are placed in Appendix II after a US proposal was voted through. According to CITES, there is growing demand for seahorses in international market with the growth is estimated by 8-10 per cent per year, mainly for traditional medicines, aquarium pets, souvenirs and curios and at least 20 million seahorses were captured in the early 90’s.
白斑病襲擊伊朗養蝦業

White spot hits Iranian shrimp industry
The white spot disease has devastated the shrimp industry around Abadan located in southwest Iran near the northern part of the Persian Gulf. According to a report on the website Iranmania. com, thirty nine farms in the area were hit by the viral epidemic last summer, forcing their closure. Some 3 000 workers have lost their jobs as a result of the closure and 2 000 more indirect jobs have also been lost. According to Mohammad Moallem, a director of the Khouzestan Seafood Cooperative, the losses in employment are devastating and the recovery of the Abadan shrimp industry would take a number of years at least since the disease prevents any farm from resuming activity for at least two years. Mohammad Moallem explained that the industry had been plagued by various problems such as cold spells, salinity fluctuations and disease over the past three years. Farmers have claimed around US$ 7.5 million in damages but have received only a very small portion of the amount. In previous years, most of the shrimp from the Abadan area were exported, especially to the Spanish market. Moallem warned that unless efforts were made to eradicate the disease from the region, the industry may never recover.

Dried fish maws brought under export control
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India, under a notification dated 14 September 2002, has brought export of dried fish maws under the purview of the Export Act. Accordingly all export production of fish maws will be subjected to quality control and inspection prior to export. The notification prohibits the export of dried fish maws unless it is accompanied by a certificate of export worthiness issued by the Export Inspection Agency, the nodal agency under the Ministry to carry out inspection and quality control. The notification covers the air bladder of the fishes such as eel (Muraenox talaboides), jewfish (Pseuosciaena sp), threadfin (Polynemus/ Polydactilus sp), giant croaker (Otolithoides brunncus), catfish (Arius sp, Tachysurus sp), sea bass and sea perch (Lates sp, Pasmoperea sp) and lizard fish (Saurida sp.). The Ministry also issued minimum quality specifications of export worthy dried fish maws. These include general characteristics of the product and its quality based on colour, type and size grades. However, any other size or grade, other than the notified size/grade, are allowed to be exported as agreed between the importer and exporter.
歐盟有望減少測試
泰國政府期望歐盟不久能夠免除對來自泰國蝦產品進行100%的抗菌素測試。泰國商業部官員不久之前與歐盟代表在布魯塞爾會面，歐盟代表表示自從9月21日來，檢查員沒在進口的泰國蝦產品中發現查禁的化學藥品污染，但有一船雞肉在測試中發現有呋喃西林，被當場銷毀。

EU expected to ease tests
Thai authorities expect the European Union to lift the 100% testing for antibiotics in Thai shrimps soon. At a recent meeting with officials of the Thai Commercial Affairs Office in Brussels, EU representatives said inspectors had found no banned chemical contamination in shrimp consignments since Sept 21. But one shipment of chicken meat tested positive for nitrofurans was destroyed on the spot. While Thai officials in Belgium believed the EU would soon return to random testing of shrimps, tougher testing could remain in place for chicken, said Pasit Poomchusri, deputy spokesman for the Commerce Ministry. He said the government's action plan to deal with the problem had succeeded. Paiboon Ponsuwanna, president of the Thai Frozen Foods Association, said the local industry was pleased with reports of progress and expected exports to the EU to improve next year.
歐盟明年可能會禁捕鱈魚

EU cod ban possible next year
Fishermen across Europe are bracing against the possibility that there may be a ban on cod fishing in 2003, following recommendations put forward by the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES). Haddock and whiting reductions are also being considered. Scientists from the European Commission have not finished their own survey yet, so at this point it is uncertain what the final decision will be.
挪威三文魚價格急劇上升

Norway salmon prices shoot up
For the first time in two years, Norwegian salmon farmers are getting NOK 30/kg for large fish following sharp rises by 20 – 25% over the past few weeks. This is good news for the farmers, who expect that prices will continue to increase towards Christmas.
印度設立HACCP認證中心
今年10月，印度在喀拉拉邦設立了水產品危害分析和關鍵控制點管理體系（簡稱HACCP）認證中心。其他一些州也將很快設立這樣的中心。該認證中心有一支18個人的隊伍，政府授權他們為水產品加工和流通領域的企業進行HACCP認證。
HACCP CENTRE SET UP
In October, India’s first National Centre for HACCP Certification was launched in Kerala and other states are expected to follow suit. A team of 18 trained personnel have been given the authority to issue HACCP certificates in the food processing and distribution sectors.

INDIA NEW FISHING REGULATIONS
In a move to further ensure sustainable exploitation of fishery resources, the government has announced additional regulations for the industry. Fishermen working outside the coastal zone are required to provide more information on the area of operation and catch details to a government agency (as yet unidentified).

USA SMOKED SALMON CERTIFIED
Washington-based SeaBear is the first company in the US to use the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) logo on a nationally-distributed product, Copper River smoked sockeye salmon. The company also sells other salmon products originating from the Alaska fishery, which had received MSC approval in September 2000. (The MSC is currently considering several other fisheries for approval: Alaska pollack, British Columbia wild salmon, Mexican Baja California spiny lobster, South African hake, South Georgia toothfish, Loch Torridon nephrops and Banco Chinchorro lobster).
