Naturally borne beauty – the twin candle stand islands

The twin candle stand islands, also known as the couple stone, which are most proud scene for the locals in Jinshan. About 450 meters above the sea level from the east side of Jihshan cape, it has height approximately 60 meters; with the bases connected together, it splits into two small islands. The outfit looks like a pair of candle stands facing each other, and that is where the name comes from. It is said that during the high tide, it allows one canoe pass through between the twin candle stand islands. During the Chin Domestic, the Danshuei local government included the twin candle stand islands as one of the eight Danshuei natural scenes in the official documentation. Therefore, we can see that the twin candle stand islands had become an important icon for local ancient Taiwanese.

The formation of the twin candle stand islands is because of the rising of the land, and the raised reef had been abraded by sea waves for long long time, and shaped into a pillar. Then the hardest part of the pillar stands alone among the ocean becomes the typical pillar abrasion by the sea with many abrasion holes on it. Furthermore, because of the living environment on the islands has been protected very well, with out too many human interfere; it has constituting as a unique tourism spot in Taiwan.

Although the time and the nature leaves marks on the islands, majority of people only appreciate the view and do not think much of its formation. By standing on the top of the Jinshan cape, people can have a good bird sight of the twin candle stand islands, and it is magnificent. Besides than appreciation of the seen, people would also like to take some photos and took them home as a testament of the beautiful memories. Now the local government has built a very unusual circular shape platform on the Jinshan cape, in an effort to frame the whole view of the twin candle stand islands. Until now, there have been many people who put themselves in the frame and took photo with the twin candle stand islands.

If you would like to visit the twin candle stand islands, you can start from the Temple Tzehu and Jinbau Li Street in Jinshan Shiang, Taipei County. After passing the Mingshen Bridge you will meet an intersection, then turn left to the Gungyuan Road, and for the next intersection turn right and go straight. First, you will see park Haibing on Jinshan cape. The park was built, according to its landscape, into a long shape. On the right hand side of the park, there is a stair on which can get to the Shuiwei Fishing Harbor, and on the left hand side of the park, there is a road to Harbor Huang. Inside the park, there is a walking track and a Jungjeng Garden House near the sea. By looking out from the garden house, you can see the whole twin candle stand islands. Lastly, there is also a Buda statue with a happy face in the park; if you still got the time, you can go visit it.
