1‧Credits Business:
Originally there were only four fishermen's associations, namely Shuao, Hsiaokang, Kaohsiung, and Liochiu, which had credit cooperatives. In 1981, the Fishermen's Associations Law was amended. Thereafter, credit cooperatives of fishermen's associations have been gradually established. At present, there are 27 regional fishermen's as sociations which have established credit cooperatives to help manage monetary business for members.
2‧Policy-oriented Loan Business
(1) For the purpose of speeding up the construction of agricultural and fishing villages and to promote fishery development, the government, starting in 1976, has provided funds and preferential terms to fishermen, which are carried out by fishermen's associations through managing the following loan programs: Agricultural Machinery Loans, Assisting and Guiding Aquaculture Farmers' Producing Loams, Natural Disaster in Agriculture Emergency Relief Loans, Starting Business Loans for Youth, Special Loans for assisting and guiding farmers to repair or build their houses, Loans for assisting and guiding the development of recreational farming, and Small Loans for assisting and guiding farmers and fishermen to change or start new businesses. For those regional fishermen's associations which have not yet established credit cooperatives, this will be accomplished with the assistance of the three agricultural banks, namely, the Farmers' Bank of China, Land Bank of Taiwan, and Co-operative Bank of Taiwan. Those banks will accept fishermen's loan applications, so that, fishermen will be able to acquire sufficient funds to support their producing needs.
(2) In order to assist and guide the newly-established credit cooperatives of fishermen's associations and to ensure that fishermen's associations' financial structures are in good condition, the government provides interest free funds under a special program that aims to help fishermen meet their monetary needs.
