In Taiwan area, since the social economic development is rapid that the national income has increased, therefore, the requirement and consumption about many recreational activities tend to increase year after year. Howere, the crowdedness and monotony of urban life urges many people to keenly look forward to returning to field and countryside to enjoy natural life. On the other hand, most fishing villages are located to the remote beach, still maintaining specific landscape and features of fishing village, if it can be duly planned and used, it may gradually attract the increasing receational crowd, contributing gratly to improve of the economic status of the fishermens' association and fishermen and prosperity of fishing village. Currently, it is the favorable timing of developing recreational fisher.

　　Since the government has started to study and propose〝Development of Tourism and Recreational Fishery Plan〞in 1992 by incorporating receational fishery into its major policy implementation items by consigning experts and scholars in collecting the information from Europe, U.S.A. and Japan, etc. in developing tourism recreational fishery and organize tourism recreational fishery instruction unit to focus on specific seminar and study & discussion of the related management codes and regulations. Besides, it also subsidizes each Hsien and city goverment to carry out development of receational fisher planning. So far, more than 10 Heiens and cities have fulfilled planning and, in accordance with planning content and actual requirement, subsidizes in constructing various related facilities to recereational fishery. Till present, the completed works include fishermen recreational center and Hai Kung fishing boat exhibition, holiday fish market peripheral facility and receational park, fishery exhibition gallary building, recreational boat boarding doc, receational fishing boat, fishing platform, sidewalk and environmental landscaping work, etc. in total of 32 places, with total investment amount ot reach more than NT$150 million. Besides, beach net hauling activities were also held at Toucheng of Yilan, Fangshan of Pingtung, Shihli and Shanshuei of Penghu, Paishoulien of Taitung, etc. through assistance. More than 20,000 recreational fishery manuals were printed and distributed to the public for reference.

　　In order to combine with the fishery to develop toward the diversification goal of 〝recreation〞and 〝education〞and comply with the planning and promotion of tourism business, the establishment of characteristics for egional recreational fishery shall be the direction requring further effort in developing receational fishery in the future.
