About LongDiann Marine Bio Technology Co., TLD

無標題文件

Founded in 1985, LONG DIANN MARINE BIO TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD. began its business by raising lobsters and was ranked No. 2 among the 3 to 4 firms in Taiwan, the only lobster-raising country in the world. Over time, we found a fast-growing species by the name of Champion Lobster, as it takes only one year for a 100g-larva to gain a weight of 1kg . As I found out after much investigation that there was a large quantity of the species in the Philippines, we moved there to run the trading business of lobsters for a couple of years. And since we realized that there was an abundance of expensive species in the waters in the Philippines, the shareholders of the Philippines and Hong Kong and I decided to establish another seafood company to gather wild species in the Philippines for sales in Hong Kong. Hong Kong people love to eat fish and the market is very large. It is guessed that an approximate 20tons is sold each day and all the fishes come from Southeast Asia, Australia and India. The high economic value fishes of the whole district are sold to Hong Kong.

In 1990, when I mentioned my worry about the diminishing supply of the world to my friends in Hong Kong, who are engaged in the seafood business, , my friends said, “Aren’t fish fry being reproduced in Taiwan?” As the species reproduced in Taiwan at that time were all relatively less expensive, I decided at once to reproduce fishes of high economic value.

In 1991, we succeeded in the reproduction of the Epinephelus Fuscoguttatus. Nowadays, the fry of the Epinephelus Fuscoguttatus has already gained recognition in Southeast Asia. In 1995, we were the first to succeed in the launching of Epinephelus Lanceolatus and the aquatic industry of the world was shocked. It was because it was not easy to eat Epinephelus Lanceolatus at that time. Reservation had to be made in order to eat Epinephelus Lanceolatus. Epinephelus Lanceolatus is the fastest growing grouper in the world . It takes merely 1 year for a larva measured 6cm long to grow into a 3~5 taiwanese kilo(catty) fish, and 10~15 taiwanese kilo(catty) in the second year. We are already selling the eggs of the species in mass production. The adult fish is also available in Hong Kong, Mainland China and Japan in mass production.

In 1997, we also succeeded in the launching of Lutjanus Sebae, which is a kind of low-cost seabream. The species is also in mass production now.

In 1998, we again succeeded in the launching of Trachinotus Blochii, which is a kind of sea cucumber. It can be divided into long-fin species and short-fin species. The long ones are apt for tropical regions, whereas the short ones are better for cold areas and grow faster. We are now producing the species in large quantities. 15-20 million pieces are produced during the period of April to June annually for the markets of Mainland China, Malaysia and Taiwan.

In 2001, we succeeded in launching Potato Bass (also known as Epinephelus Tukula), which is the second largest in the world and is listed as a protected species in Australia. We are now producing it in large quantities by producing 20-30 million fry each year. As for the adult fish, we have already been supplying the market with Potato Bass weighing about 1 taiwanese kilo(catty) since 2004, which received a positive response from all trades. As the damage rate of the species is very low during the transportation, and it beautifies the aquarium of the restaurants, it may replace the Orange-spotted Grouper in the future.

In 2001, we had another innovation, i.e. the introduction of Seriola Dumerili, which is the most favorite species of the Japanese. The annual sales of the adult fish of 3~4kg in Japan is around 15 million and so the market is very large. All the fish are reproduced by the aquatic companies in Japan. After the fishermen of Hainan Island have caught fry measuring 2cm in the sea, the fry will be delivered to the aquatic companies to be grown up to 12cm long. In March to April each year, Japan has a strong need of fry of over 12cm long for breeding. The Japanese mariculturists usually reproduce the fry of Seriola Dumerili in October, which they think is the best time for doing so. Our research finally succeeded in 2001 after a 2-year study and we are now able to produce the fish in large quantity in October – a schedule 5 months earlier.

In April 2004, we succeeded in the reproduction of Plectropomus Leopardus and Plectropomus maculatus. The demand for Plectropomus in the Hong Kong market reaches about 5000-6000tons annually and the value is worth about USD300 million. The successful breeding of Plectropomus may bring about another economic development for the mariculturists of Southeast Asia. It also shows that the aquatic technique of Taiwan excels in the world. We are committed to continuing to introduce new species by working harder.
