The turbans has successfully reproduced by National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium
The National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium is the first successfully artificial reproduced four kinds of turbans in the laboratory last year. After a year of hard works, the silver mouth turbans has grown up to 5cm size, and will be let go into oceans afterwards. Because of over catch by human beings, cause the number of turbans at Hengchuen ocean region decreased sharply. Investigators believe that the reproduction of turbans can help the power of feral groups, stop seaweed growth and protect the natural environment of coral reefs.
Last year, because the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium got support funds from the Fisheries Administration, and the help from Hengchuen fishermen association to collect shells, so finally, the laboratory center of the Aquarium start reproduce four kinds of shellfishes, which are golden mouth, silver mouth, tiger spots and round shape turbans. Now the silver mouth turbans already grow up to 5cm size, and other three kinds are also growing noticablely.
Nowadays, Taiwan Kenting ocean regions coral reefs are threatened by seaweeds, but because turbans are mainly eat seaweeds for living, the Aquarium will continuous let 3000 turbans go into oceans. Hope it will stop seaweed keep growing, and to protect natural marine bionomic environment.
